Hypnotherapy at Trilogie

There are many forms of hypnosis and many misconceptions about hypnosis. When you hear "hypnosis" you may relate it to what you see in the media. A 'master hypnotist' has the powerful position of suggesting authoritatively that you 'are getting sleepy and you will quit smoking' for example.

However, here at Trilogie
Christine O'Halloran and Deslyn Maher practice Ericksonian hypnotherapy. Where 'classical' hypnosis is authoritative and direct, and often encounters resistance in the client, Erickson's approach is honouring, accommodating and indirect. Milton Erickson is considered the father of modern hypnotherapy. The therapy he engendered, Ericksonian Hypnotherapy, is one of the fastest growing and influential branches of hypnotherapy today. His methods have inspired short term strategic therapy, the rebirth of guided imagery, and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) to name a few.

Hypnosis is a tool used to facilitate a client's process in moving towards where they wish to be. When you are experiencing hypnotherapy you are in what Erickson calls 'a trance state'. This trance state is somewhere between being awake and asleep. Erickson maintained that trance is a common, everyday occurrence. For example, when waiting for buses and trains, reading or listening, or even being involved in strenuous physical exercise, it's quite normal to become immersed in the activity and go into a trance state, removed from any other irrelevant stimuli. These states are so common and familiar that most people do not consciously recognise them as hypnotic phenomena.

Most people relate to the experience of being hypnotized as extrememly relaxing and pleasurable. This is because trance is simply a state of deep relaxation and internal focus. The suggestions you receive from your therapist while in trance are designed to assist you in accessing the internal wisdom inherent in all human beings. You leave your hypnosis session feeling energized and with a feeling of inner peace. You also gain valuable insights and direction concerning the behaviour patterns that you would like to change.

Issues typically addressed with hypnotherapy include stress and pain management, anxiety, phobias, habits, depression, post trauma, health improvement, emotional blocks, concentration, exam nerves, smoking and alcohol cessation, gaining self confidence, improved memory, obsessions and/or compulsions or any other issues that are important to the client.

The application of hypnosis is very broad and in order for real change to occur the client needs to be truly committed in making changes in their life.

An assessment of your needs will be made and discussed during your initial session.
